DC School Transit Subsidy Program
The School Transit Subsidy Program provides reduced fares for District students who use Metrobus, Metrorail, or the DC Circulator to travel to and from school.
The DC Department of Transportation is phasing out the current DC Student Travel Cards by the end of December. All students must obtain the new DC One card to receive discounted prices on the Metro rail and Metro buses.
Ride Free on Bus Program
District students in the School Transit Subsidy Program will be eligible to ride Metrobus (within the District of Columbia) without charge with a valid DC One Card or a Student Travel Card between the hours of 5:30 am to 9 am and 2 pm to 8 pm on weekdays only.
Students will be required to show their DC One Card or Student Travel Card in order to ride Metrobus for free.
DC One Card
The DC One Card will serve as an identification card for many DC services, including public libraries, rec centers, and Metro travel as it can be SmarTrip enabled.
The complete list of services offered as well as requirements to apply for a card can be found on the DC One Card website.
To obtain your student’s DC One card, you must escort him or her to one of the three service center locations (listed in the section below) to get a picture taken and fill out an application. The application can also be completed online beforehand at: https://idmsprdweb.dc.gov/enrollment/index.jsf.
At the service center, you will need to provide proof of relationship and proof of DC residency. Once you have provided the documentation and taken the picture, your student’s DC One Card will be mailed to your home address.
You will need to bring the DC One card to the school’s main office to have it registered online through the school. The card will not be activated until it is registered by Holy Trinity School.
After this process, the student can print out an eligibility letter to show a WMATA or Metro Sales Office staff representative.
If you have any questions, please refer to the DC One Card website or contact the office at (202) 337-2339.
