Summer Reading Lists
We would like your children to read, read, and read some more this summer! Read at whim, read for information, read for the thrill of living in an imaginary world! Why is it so important that you set aside time for reading every day? Your young scholars need to engage with books every day so they can maintain, and ideally strengthen, all the literacy skills they have learned during the previous school year. Any time they read they are strengthening their reading muscles. We have prepared comprehensive lists for each grade level and hope everyone can find dozens of titles to interest and inspire. At minimum, we expect our students to read on average 20 minutes a day — (or 6 chapter books for our rising 3rd graders and above). Here are the suggested reading lists for 2021:
Picture Books (an option for Rising PreK – 3rd Grade)
Early Chapter Books and Series (an option for Rising K – 3rd Grade)
For 2021, we are unveiling a new program in the Upper School — each of our students has selected to be part of a faculty-led summer book club. We expect our students to have read their book and be ready to discuss it during the first week of school.
